I was trying to compare your situation to ice fishing. We debate this every year in the fishhouse. I've seen it where putting the generator up on my truck or 4 wheeler would seem to help and other times it seemed by putting it on the ice helped. It definatly puts out vibration. The debate will go on forever.

I've found spot lights scare the fish more then the generators. At leash that was the case years ago up in NY

I'm new to this and would think the generator does put out vibrations. I don't have a clue as to whether they spook fish or not. I've been doing a little research and want to get a boat rigged up. I think I'll go with a generator. Noticed that some guys are enclosing the generators and use fans to keep em cool and ventelated. I wonder if mounting rubber pads on the bottom of the enclosure would help dampen vibration? Years ago when I was getting into bass fishing I remember an old pro saying you can play an fm radio in your boat all day long and it won't spook fish but slam a deck lid and kiss em goodbye......So I still wonder about the vibration issue and is it a real problem. The other thing I want to get right is lighting. I'm thinking I want to mount a couple poles of some sort on each side of my boat, then attach a light to the top of each pole. How high off the water do the lights need to be? I'm thinking of using something not to expensive. What about the tractor lights or fog lights you can get at WallyWorld or auto-stores? I think the tractor lights will do well for fish just below the surface.

Certain fish won't spook from the generator. It's the sudden movement or loud noise that will Spook em. Grass Carp however are spook by nature and they will leave in a hurry.
A rubber mat under the generator will help with some vibration. No need to enclose it and ventilate it unless you don't want to listen to the noise.
As for lights, don't mount them on a pole. It's just one more thing for your line to get caught up on. Mount them down low and leave the area where you're shooting as clear as possible. My deck is about 12" off the top of the gunwales and my lights hang under my deck. I'm using the $10 halogen work lights you can find at Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot
