I have been bowfishing for about two years now and I have had this one spot I have been going to all the time its this little lagoon by my house in baycity that leads out to the kawkawlin river then out to the bay, now in my dnr fishing guide it states that I may bowfish non trout inland waters, from May1-Aug something, and I was kind of wondering is my spot considered inland? I guess it is a question for Michigan bowfishers just because you have to know the area, another question is in the dnr hunting guide it says you have to be a certain distance from a house to discharge a bow, but the lagoon I shoot at has houses by it, but in the fishing guide it doesnt say you have to be a certain distance to shoot, so what do you guys think? because i would really hate to lose my bowfishing spot but if it keeps me out of trouble oh well.

Well, I may have bad news for you on both accounts.

1st, inland "typically" means past the first impassable barrier such as a dam, lock, waterfall, etc. Its odd though that you wouldnt be able to shoot in the lake. I have shot in Lake MI many times and there are tournament held there as well.

2nd, if Bows are considered firearms in your town, then the 500ft rule applies whether you are on water or not. But, not all ordinances consider bows firearms so you have to check on that one.

Sorry man... the key here is that not all locations follow the same guidelines so be sure to check for your area.

DNR should know for sure! Good luck.

I also live in Bay City-----where you are talking about is not a trout stream #1 and as far as I know you are legal for trash fish-----carp and gar. Call the DNR office and ask.
