I am going to give this a shot. I do not want to my dismantle hunitng and 3d bows. I have an old Hoyt Redline that I can set up for bowfishing. I will probably do this 3 or 4 days a year so this has to be cheap too. Is the WB the way to go for a bowfishing rest? What is the cheapest rest and retrieval system that works????? Carp mostly..

I know Jon--don't tell me about my 10 dollar head and 10 dollar helmet..........

The WB will not work for bow fishing. The cheapest is the riser shelf. Their are special roller rests or you can go with a simple rest that wont get in the way of the fiberglass arrow or the line. A cheap reel and arrow combo for around 20 bucks will do. Keep in mind to keep the line from catching on any thing. No sights or pins or stabilizer, The real will bolt into the stabilizer hole.

BTW, a normal WB won't work, but you can get one designed for bowfishing. Costs about the same as a normal WB.

Yep, stronger bristles for fiberglass arrows.

The old tried and true roller rest has never let me down.

By the way if any of you live in NY. Alex told me today the carp are in full spawn

I'm leaving tonight after work. there's nothing like shooting loads of carp on Oneida lake during the spawn.

im a big fan of the WB, but not for bowfishing. my friend has one and the bristles r like shot on it, all fluffed out and stuff, isnt strong enough to hold the heavy arrow. a good roller rest is they way to go IMO

Take a little bit of epoxy and coat the whiskers. This'll keep the whiskers from getting "all fluffed out and stuff". However, it sounds like your friend doesn't have the proper biscuit for bowfishing. I have a WB that I used heavily for 2 years of constant bowfishing and it's still in very good shape.

If you want to go the cheap route, build an epoxy rest out of QuickSteel or Plumbers Epoxy. A tube will cost you about $2 and you can get 2 or 3 rests out of one tube.

jumpers got the right idea with the epoxy rest but if your shooting a 3d bow the epoxy rest is not for you

Epoxy does not work well at high poundage and deep water.
I use a plastic flipper (Hoyt) rest the most.

To bad your not here Flathead. I just got up to my brothers and the carp are rolling on one another. I'll see if I can get alex to load some pics later

I just go down to the river here and shoot some of those 50 lb grassy to make me feel better.

Wish I could come up there this year for the St. Larry, but with gas prices. I do not see it happening.

Yall have fun. Maybe I go get a shark.
There a turny this weekend on the Savannah River. Never shot it so I might try that.

Hey flathead

I won't be here for the ST. Tourny either.

I know what your saying about gas prices though

Rough driving up here. Maybe we can get together and do some shark shootin.

flat head what kind of epoxy are you using .. i dont understand why you dont shoot epoxy rests for deep water
flathead Response #16 posted 06/06/2006 07:22 AM EST.
It does not work well on real high 60 plus poundage.
It could be because the arrow will flex’s a lot more.
