I have been using a 30lb recurve and on most fish it works, but for them big carp and gar my arrow does not even penetrate so I was wondering how much poundage do you guys use?

My bow was set at 45# and the arrow would sometimes pin them to the mud(those were just small carp,6-7lbs).Now I have my bow set at about 50#.And it works great.

I have it at about 55 or 60. Works fine, but you won't need nearly that much.

50lbs and thats starting to get on the crazy side you wont need more than that unless your shooting really deep like 10 to 12 foot

10-12 ft :0 WOW thats a good shot right there. i think the 6 ft shots round here r practically impossible lol.

2 -3 feet of water is very dense and will take all the umph out of your shot. Penetrating a big or small carp will be next to impossible much less getting the barbs inside the fish.
