Hey Dave
You can fish the ocean, but you need to check your states regulations for what is legal and illegal.
depending on what your fishing for will depend on how you set up your bow.
Flat head has shot the ocean much more than me. Maybe when he checks in he can give you some more info on set up

It depends on what your after and how deep your shooting a suppose.

Yeah u can bowfish in the ocean. All u need to do to set up ur bow is to get a reel like the AMS reriever reel(it's the safest one on the market, probably the most expensive to,but its worth it)and some arrows to go with it.The best arrows u can get are the ones with the safety slides or a safety cable with a big swivel on it.That way if ur line gets tangled up the arrow wont come back at u piont first. My friend had a drum reel and the line got wraped up behind it and the arrow came back nock first and went into his ear.with the AMS that wont happen so thats why the AMS is the safest reel you can get.For points most any will work but the ones I use are muzzy quick release gar and carp points.Heres a few sites where you can check all this stuff out,amsbowfishing.com,sullysbowfishing.com,backwaterbowfishing.com.Also there is a spincast reel u can get for bowfishing there the same things as the zebco 808's but those arent safe either because a guy in my area forgot to push the release button and the arrow came back and killed them.Anyways good luck and watch out because it's addicting!

Well it is a blast bowfishing. Sharks you can bait, and you will need a slotted AMS reel with a float for them. Flounder I just troll around looking for them in the shallows.

Actually if you were to take an old compound bow and make it a fishing bow what items would you need to add on to it to make it useable? very interesting be specific!
