Luke
Keep your eye open for generator. They run alnight and weigh about the same as 4 deep cycle batteries

Some of the best trips I have been on was with a handheld spotlight. If you buy a Delco Voyager battery on a full charge it will run one till one hour before sun up. Of course you have to take turns shining and shooting. The generators are fun but it takes alot of watts to equal a good spotlight in the muddy water down south. You may not have that problem where you are located.

Believe it or not no!
You can also put a ruber mat under it if it's really bad

We actually used both. 5000 watt generator running 4000 watts of lights a 36v smart charger and various electronics.
then we had a bank of 6 - volt deep cycle batteries running the the 110lb trolling motor. We also had 6 12v on the other side of the deck as back up. Though with the 36v smart charger, we put 68 miles all on trolling motor and never tapped the 6volts out!
The generator will not scare them in the least!
Word of advice... Keep you lights as low as possible to the water. Less reflections and the bugs stay below your mouth!

hey Luke if you use 2-6 volts instead of 1-12 volt you will get alot more time out of it.

Brinkman makes some good ones. The car batteries wont last long. You have to have a deep cycle. I like the delco voyager, the charge indicator is nice and I have went many, many nights until sunup in the brackish water after sheephead, flounder and redfish. The voyager held up every time. Use a seperate battery for the trolling motor of you use one.

quazzy i already talked to dad about helpin us put some wires in there so we can put a cigarette charger outlet in the front so we can plug the spotlights right in there so the light runs of the 2 batteries we'll have in the back. That's what we did with parkers boat last season. It shouldnt be too hard, just take some time.

I'm not familiar with the six volt batteries..I have two twelve volts for my 24 volt trolling motor and it will go all day while fishing but you are saying the 6 volts are better than the twelve volts? What type of batteries are these..and what brand? Where do you get them? I want to go light as I can in my Go-Devil....it is a 23hp Vangaurd..I also have a head light that I use for running in the dark..13volt..100 watt...I want to get the most out of the lightest battery or batteries...what do ya'll suggest? I have one 12 volt battery right now and the light drains it pretty easy..it's more of a car type instead of marine like in my other boat..thanks..

I dont know alot about the bigger lights but if you can find something with LED's they will take less energy from your batteries
