Well I got off to a terrible start this morning Couldn't sleep last night and not sure if I slept through or the alarm didn't go off. I woke up at 7:30 am ...day break .... jumped to my feet in one motion and run to the living room to assure my self I was missing one of the best weather opening mornings in years ..... Lights were up and the fog was all around from the frost melting off .......
Ran to the shower ... and took a quick wash of the essentials with the Hunters soap .... dried off best I could and jumped into my prepared and bagged clothes to head out to the woods grabbed the bow and off i go ......
As I'm walking in I pass a cousin whom has recently acquired the 5 acre property next to me and he has a ground blind on his property but right between two of my stand locations and of course windows open looking over my property ...... I shake my head for several reasons on my way by but that's a whole other thread .......
So I climb into my stand not 50 yards from him and settle in ....feeling like I was late for a meeting with a knot in my stomach ..... bad feeling over all ....got on stand just before 8:00 Am
Settling in about 9:30 I catch movement come out of the brush and onto the trail behind me at about 20 yards he heads up the trail to my left and is obscured by the cover I leave between me and the trail head .... I draw the Guardian
I'm standing and ready .... He makes a right that will take him into my shooting lane as he walks in front of me at about 16 yards .... slight quartering away .... and I touch off the release as he stops in the opening .....
He takes off stumbling across the trail and into the under brush with his chest nearly on the ground ...... and I see my arrow wrap sitting on the floor of the woods ..... Pass through .... ahhhh yes .... Slick Trick went through him like butter ........ I know I got him .....
I give it about 10 mins and climb down from the stand and go to my arrow .... covered in nice red blood and turn off the Firenock ...
There is blood on both the impact and exit side of the deer and trail heading into the brush ..... with blood on the under brush as far as I can see ..........
I decide to head back up the trail to the house to see if my cousin is still out and interested in helping .... and doing a little gloating for the Johnny come lately move he pulled ... and he had closed up shop and was gone ....
Head on up to the house and call Dad for him to head down ..... and help as I'm killing time at this point ....... Dad gets there and we head out back
We get onto the Blood trail and it is not tough to follow and it opens up and really pours at about 35 yards ..... and we walked right to the deer at approx 90 yards from the shot location .....
We had to drag him about 20 more yards to reach a trail on my Dads property. We Drag him out snap some pics and went for the tractor loaded him up and headed for the barn
We got back to the barn and gutted the deer into trash bags .... to day is trash day All I left in the woods was a racing stripe .....
Hung ,Skinned, Quartered, and Bagged in the refrigerator all before noon with the trash out at the road . Oh and that Damn knife finally got to cut some thing other then me used both the knifes i made they worked great .... man that skinner is scary sharp
Not huge but a decent buck for the Suburban area I hunt and the pressure we have couldn't let him walk.
6pt from my own property........ Pics to follow Lunch is on the table ..... Grilled tenderloin ...... yummmm
