Doe - 100Points
10/10/09
Sorry for the delay, but I was enjoying watching team 12 get all excited..... Well, this should help us,
Another 100 points for team 18, Albertabowhunter.
Went out to a stand I placed in August, first time in it this morning. It was a balmy -8C with a slight wind from the north, while I changed into my hunting clothes. On the way to the stand I saw a cow moose with 2 calves. Got all comfy and could hear the coyotes starting howl as they got ready to do what ever it is they do at 7:15 in the morning. Another fresh skiff of snow fell last night, and all the small pot holes froze over. Well, waited a while watching the magpies bounce from tree to tree. Then off to the east I heard a large deer blow.... hmmm, someone got busted. Heh, wasnt me. Shortly after I could hear some crunching coming from the North of me. it got closer and closer. But due to a large stand of willows, couldnt see it. Finally I gave up thinking it was the 3 moose from earlier browsing. Every so often I could see a flicker of momement, a branch, some leaves shaking. As the moose got closer, it finally exposed itself. Nope not a moose, Doe! As I was waiting to see this so called moose I ranged the spot I figured it would come out... 35 yards the yadage pro read. As I drew back on the doe, she turn to her right to take some leae of a low shrub giving me a great quartering away shot. I sent the Dominator 300 tipped arrow with the anti-deer Spitfire 100 on a surgical stike. The arrow entered through the second back rib, and drove down through the lungs cutting a major artery on the way through, and striking the far side front leg. The arrow knocked the deer over, probably from hitting the far leg. She got up, and ran about 15 yards and piled up. First time in the stand, first doe of the year.
