Doe - 100Points
10/21/09
I got home from work around 5:40 or so with the urge to let the air out of something tonight. I've been wanting a fat doe for the freezer, but this weekend only saw a few spikes, a nice young 8 pointer, and a nice wide 10 pointer that has tempted me on a few occassions but I've let him walk so far (tines are pretty short).
Anyway, I rush home, check the wind, and it's perfect for the stand right behind the house. I run in the house, throw on my scentlok suit, grab my hat, release, safety belt, fanny pack and bow, and head for the stand. I glass the area, don't see any deer in the area under the stand, and quickly climb up into the stand around 6:00. I am hunting right at the edge of my yard, next to a big oak that has been dropping acorns like crazy, which the deer have been tearing up. I get settled in for the first time in this stand since I hung it a week or so ago. At 6:15, after a whopping 15 minutes into the hunt, I see this doe heading my way all alone. She passes by one shooting lane and heads for the acorns, which is an area that will offer a clear shot. I make sure she isn't a button buck or a fawn and that there isn't a big buck trailing her, and wait for her to give me a good clear shot quartering away. She starts munching on acorns, totally relaxed and after a minute or so presents a shot hard quartering away, at a distance of about 12 yards. I take my time, relax, draw, anchor, put the pin right behind her last rib. I release, and the arrow passes through her, right behind the last rib, and enters in front of her off leg. She takes off on a death run and I hear her crash soon thereafter. Got down, followed the trail to find her about 50 yards from the stand. Good blood everywhere, the Rage 2 blade did it's job again. Complete pass through and an undamaged head. Another one of Jon's arrows and Wayne's wraps gets good and bloody. She'll be a good eater.
