Talking Birddog
by: Hal Schmidt

Yes, this is the lying deer hunter/bear hunter again, but this time it really happened. Honest. This was opening day of the archery deer season. After a missed deer, caused by misjudging the distance, we left the woods and were standing around this old barn eating our lunch. All of a sudden we hear this guy blow a whistle (the ones with the little cork ball in them) and yell, "Come on Jack! Come on!" Then he blew the whistle again and yelled, "Come on Jack! Come on!" This went on for 4 or 5 times. Then I yelled out, "I'm not gonna do it, all you want me to do is chase them damn silly birds." We all broke out into hysterical laughter, but the woods was as silent as a church. My brother said that he probably took that dog home and beat the daylights out of him trying to get him to talk again.

Man, the things you SEE AND HEAR IN THE WOODS.
