Just Too Dark
by: Dylan Diss

It was about 2 hours after my cousin dropped me off at my stand and it was getting dark. He should be returning to pick me up within the next 15 minutes. I don't know what took him so long, but I am glad. Behind a bush I could see something moving, but I could not quite make it out. As the two deer came in to the clearing I could see it was two bucks fighting. There was a 4or 5 pointer and a 9 pointer. Of course, I was going to take the 9 pointer. As he made the clearing, I lined my sights up on my cross bow and shot. He ran off with his tail down, so I thought I might of hit him, but it was to dark to tell. Then my cousin came walking up to me, and I told him I think I hit one. We hurried and got flashlights and went back to the stand. As we were driving up we saw a deer up in the skyline and I got excited, then my cousin told me it was a doe. We started looking around and my cousin found my arrow on the ground, mangled and bent. I must have shot over it. Dang it! I was so mad that night!
