47.) crookedeye - 03/03/2014 I remember watching obh's self filming of his pig hunt I think the blind was a block away from the cabin..and he was breathing awlfully hard.. 48.) Ventilator - 03/03/2014 Dave is ramping up his training for this season I hear. He plans to shut off the atv 100yds from the stand vs 25. that's gonna be 4x as much walking for him! Very impressive. :wink OHBH knows im kidding.:) 49.) crookedeye - 03/03/2014 its best not to rush into a full blown workout either, start slowly and work youre way up..say stop the atv 5 yards further every couple of weeks..then by hunting time you'll be 125 yards from the stand, plus the climb up the ladder.. the cardio will be at an all time high... 50.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 Instead of 25 yards parking the quad I'm making all box blinds to be able to pull the atv under the blind. No walking. That way when I leave the stand I can wait till dark to leave. I'm scared of the dark. 51.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 I'm going to light beer as well. It has to be better for you 52.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 I am going to walk to check the mail instead of riding to the mail box. That's going to be a tuff one to put in place 53.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 This year instead of using a zero turn on all my lawns I'm going to use a walk behind on 3 of them. 54.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 I'm going to stand up to pee when going to the bathroom. Even in the morning. 55.) crookedeye - 03/03/2014 lol.. 56.) Ventilator - 03/03/2014 That is a helluva routine!! better have plenty of advil on hand...you will need it! 57.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 I don't wanna over do it and be a overacheiver 58.) Triton Rich - 03/03/2014 Well, as luck would have it, I drew my WY elk tag. I suppose that means I'll need to start doing some exercising myself! 59.) Ohbuckhunter - 03/03/2014 Rich. My plan will be your best bet. I'm in shape since I started this ROUND 60.) Triton Rich - 03/03/2014 I like your plan. Except for the light beer, I can't do that! 61.) NEBigAl - 03/04/2014 Just switch to whiskey! 62.) Ventilator - 03/04/2014 congrats Rich. I will be in WY myself this October. 63.) Ventilator - 03/04/2014 As for training. Get a pack with 50lbs and start doing a lot of rucking. That is pretty much all you need to do. :tu: 64.) Deerminator - 03/04/2014 Try http://www.bodybuilding.com/ They have stuff for everyone. Young, old, men, women. Even body building competition for geezers. Diet and nutrition, all the good stuff. 65.) Triton Rich - 03/05/2014
congrats Rich. I will be in WY myself this October.
Thanks Man! Hopefully, we both have some good luck!
As for training. Get a pack with 50lbs and start doing a lot of rucking. That is pretty much all you need to do. :tu:
Our hunts aren't going to be too awful difficult. Our hikes are somewhat level or light/moderate climbing. One of our morning spots involves driving a few miles on blacktop uphill from the ranch, parking a few hundred yards from the top of a draw and walking down the draw to meet the elk coming up. That's a good one for us! I'm hunting with my Dad who's 72 so we'll save the more intense stuff for when he's in a rocking chair :-). I'll be doing some cardio to help with the altitude and that will prob be it. The more important part will probably be seeing some Doctors to fix my lungs up a bit. My mild asthma seems to be getting a bit less mild. 66.) Ventilator - 03/05/2014
Thanks Man! Hopefully, we both have some good luck! Got that right! Should be awesome. I'm taking my daughter on her first western deer hunt. Our hunts aren't going to be too awful difficult. Our hikes are somewhat level or light/moderate climbing. Ventilator - 03/10/2014 Roger that....ill be in Sheridan. Probably fly into Billings and rent a car tho. 69.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014
I'm going to light beer as well. It has to be better for you
before we go I could make up like a dozen ham sandwiches with swiss cheese and maybe some peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches..for breakfast maybe a couple boxes of captain crunch and a box of count chocula.. 70.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 I still dispute this 50 60 lb pack weight...if two people go... granted obh needs his own tent and his space... I still cant comprehend 50 60 lbs of gear..say for a seven day hunt.. 71.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 you figure 20lbs of essentials... food, sleeping .cooking.. 72.) Floyd - 06/29/2014 You have 20lbs of alcohol and cigars alone. Not to mention the porno stuff and things for your "Boy Dance Party" out there. 73.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 Floyd this is serious stuff... 74.) Floyd - 06/29/2014 Oh sure, I got what your saying. Serious stuff. Don't forget your Viagra. It will help you "dance longer". And help with high attitudes. er, high altitudes too. :tu: 75.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 realisticly Floyd how much do you need for a week?lbs wise..break it down.. 76.) Floyd - 06/29/2014 Seriously, I heard Viagra help with the high altitude sickness. Oh by the way, did you ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for "elk hunting"? 77.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 you can use a rubber for carrying water...god knows the one in my wallet needs some use... 78.) Floyd - 06/29/2014
realisticly Floyd how much do you need for a week?lbs wise..break it down..
You pack just the essentials. All ultra-light stuff. Figure out minimum caloric intake. Cost will go up. You need to find your tipping point, Then decide how much risk you are willing to take. 79.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014
Seriously, I heard Viagra help with the high altitude sickness. Oh by the way, did you ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for "elk hunting"?
if I cant climb or run I might as well be dead.. that's a quote from me.. 80.) Floyd - 06/29/2014 Take risk. What's the worst that can happen? You become coyote or wolf food? Good news is, if that happen, you'll become known as environmentally friendly. Reduced carbon foot print and the whole shebang. 81.) Floyd - 06/29/2014 I don't think boiling water gets hot enough at high altitude for freeze dried foods and it takes too long. What you think? Maybe I need to let it set a little longer and reheat it. 82.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 I heard in high altiturd theres a different boiling point.. 83.) billy b - 06/29/2014 How high are you gonna be, water boiled good for me @ 9500'? 84.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 billy i'll be at 1500 ft....that's what the chicks dig.. 85.) crookedeye - 06/29/2014 that's a old wise tail boiling water at attitudes..if i'm at 10,000 feet my bacons not going to cook different then if I was at 8,000 feet.. 86.) DParker - 06/30/2014 You boil your bacon? 87.) Floyd - 06/30/2014 I bet he burns his own biscuits too. 88.) crookedeye - 06/30/2014 I order a pair of sitka mountain pants.. eventually i'll get a dress coat and tie to go with it.. 89.) Wild Bob - 07/01/2014
all we'll need is sleeping bag and maybe a tarp..of course a sleeping bag of youre own...5 days of hell...should be fun..i hope it doesn't rain every day...
You mean like this: |
